Between Architecture and Nature

Between Architecture and Nature

Collaboration can be a powerful thing.

Working with others allows me to take my collections to another level and as I reflect on some of my most memorable collaborations I recall working with renowned architect, and friend, Sou Fujimoto. We share a vision to create an effortless relation between the body and the environment with utmost simplicity. Sou Fujimoto is an architect who understands that we have more senses than just the eye.

When I went to London in 2013 to see the new Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, a temporary structure designed by Sou Fujimoto it was constructed of white angular sticks surrounding square glass tiles, I suddenly had this strong feeling of something great and new. From a distance, his Serpentine Pavilion looked like a fragile cloud. But it was a cloud you could walk in, sit on, eat in, you could lay down and feel instantly comfortable. It was at this moment I was moved to create a collection inspired by his architecture.

Similar to my process in designing clothes, architect @sou_fujimoto is not only interested in the outside appearance of a structure but also in how people feel inside. He’s sensitive in his approach and creates volumes you can live in. It was this concept that inspired me to collaborate with him for my Spring/Summer 2016 collection - now more than ever this resonates with me.
