Sensual and feminine joie de vivre: How Romanian artist Geta Brǎtescu’s unique upbeat energy infuses Albert Kriemler’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection with soft yet powerful colors, a new magnetism and a feminine and sporty silhouette
Geta Brǎtescu’s name was under the radar of most art lovers until 2017, when the nonagenarian Romanian artist was embraced by the global art world at the documenta 14 and at the Biennale in Venice. She had worked in the seclusion of her studio in Bucharest for most of her life. Her joie the vivre informs her work in her drawings and collages and through unique and powerful colors, as the mauve in the “Wink” print, which Albert Kriemler dubs “the Geta Blue” and the soft yet evocative pinks in “Linia”. Innovative flat soleil plissé makes for a sleek and feminine silhouette with a distinct energetic touch.
