The dynamic structure of architecture has been especially important for Albert Kriemler, it often plays a role in his collections and became a cornerstone of the Akris Collections.

Ever since, the trapezoid has been found throughout Akris’ collections - in the shape of clasps, buckles, garments and the silhouette of the iconic Ai bag. Albert was first inspired while exploring the Jinhua Architecture Park near Shanghai, China.

Among the 17 pavilions crafted by architects from all over the world, it was the Exhibition Room that caught his eye. Created by young Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao, the newly designed pavilion stood out to Albert for its distinct trapezoid shape.

In a sense, the design collectively represented the ‘A’ in Akris, tying together the house’s journey from Alice Kriemler-Schoch’s founding in 1922 to Albert Kriemler’s creative direction today.

The first design to introduce the trapezoid shape was the Ai bag, which was unveiled in the Spring-Summer 2010 Trapezoid Collection.

Along with the defining shape of the collection, the Ai went on to introduce woven horsehair fabric into the Akris family. As one of the unexpected and surprising materials fitting into Albert Kriemler’s passion for unique textiles and love of inspiring fabrics.

The Spring/Summer 2020 collection celebrates the anniversary of the trapezoid and the launch of the Aicon bag. Shop the collection.
