Get inspired with the Memphis style and create your 80’s look by pairing high waisted trousers with boxy biker jackets and flounced tops
When Memphis exploded on the design scene in the early 1980s, it was an instant phenomenon defying the ubiquitous sober midcentury style in favor of the surprising and the wildly colorful. Founded in Milan by young designers and architects, the group changed the game with new, fresh materials and the idea that spheres made great armrests in chairs. Objects like the “First” chair by Michele de Lucchi inspired the signature dot, as well as new colors, prints and volumes for Akris punto Resort 2019.
Channel Kodak Stripes and Polka Dots the Memphis Way
Inspirations by Ettore Sottsass, the undisputed genius behind the Memphis group, are all over the place in key looks. Head straight for the graphic grid pattern - a nod to his monochrome Grid ceramic Vases - and the signature Kodak stripes as on a sought-after closet he created. Draped scalloped shapes on a white Ceramic vase are echoed in the color-blocking Scallop-shaped prints, cut-outs and chunky knits. Even the signature Akris punto polka dot now adopts a scalloped perimeter.
